MENGYIN, Shandong, October 14, 2026 — Shandong Jiuzhou Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has completed the production and shipment of a batch of rear dump semi-trailers destined for a mining site in Africa, where they will be used for short-haul transport of copper-cobalt ore and aggregates. This marks the company’s first batch export of rear dump semi-trailers to Africa, following previous deliveries of skeleton semi-trailers to Tanzania, Kenya, and other African markets since 2017.
Why Rear Dump Semi-Trailers, and Why Now
Africa is experiencing a concentrated release of infrastructure and mining investment. According to Bloomberg’s 2026 Investor Guide, China’s Belt and Road Initiative investment commitments in Africa reached US$33.5 billion in the first half of 2026 alone — the highest level for any comparable period on record — with Ethiopia and Egypt as the largest recipients. At the same time, the development of transport corridors for copper, cobalt, manganese, and other critical minerals is accelerating. The copper-cobalt belt in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Zambian Copperbelt continue to drive demand for short-haul ore transfer equipment.
Rear dump semi-trailers handle the “last mile” of material movement in mining operations: from the excavation face to the stockyard, and from the stockyard to the main haul road. Typical operating conditions in African mining areas involve high temperatures, heavy dust, unpaved roads, and frequent overloading. What customers need is equipment that can run continuously, avoid breakdowns, and keep maintenance costs manageable.
Adjustments Made for African Operating Conditions
The rear dump semi-trailers delivered in this batch are three-axle standard configurations, but several adjustments were made based on the customer’s specific usage scenario:
Reinforced main beam. Overloading is common in short-haul mining transport in Africa, and the customer explicitly requested vehicles that “can haul and can take abuse.” The trailers use Q345B manganese steel main beams with 16 mm top flanges, 16 mm bottom flanges, and 8 mm webs, welded with automatic submerged arc welding — maintaining structural strength while controlling tare weight.
Enhanced hydraulic system. Lift cylinders on rear dump semi-trailers experience accelerated seal aging when operating continuously in high temperatures. Jiuzhou selected hydraulic seals rated for high-temperature conditions for this batch and increased hydraulic oil tank capacity to help control oil temperature.
Coating adapted for UV and dust. Inland African mining areas combine high UV intensity with severe dust erosion. The trailers were treated using the electrophoretic coating line that Jiuzhou commissioned in 2025. Compared with conventional spraying, electrophoretic coating offers stronger adhesion and more uniform coverage, with noticeably better corrosion protection at frame corners and weld seams.
Delivery and Inspection
The production cycle for this batch was 30 days. Before leaving the factory, each trailer underwent hydraulic pressure testing, lift stability inspection, and structural weld checks. Jiuzhou’s facility in Mengyin covers 300 mu (approximately 20 hectares) with annual capacity exceeding 20,000 units, providing stable delivery capability for bulk export orders.
The trailers were shipped from a port in Shandong via roll-on/roll-off vessel. Each unit was accompanied by complete inspection reports, export documentation, and English-language operation and maintenance manuals.
Customer Background and Feedback
The customer is a mid-sized mining logistics company in an African country. Its existing fleet mixed used rear dump semi-trailers from multiple brands, resulting in high repair frequency and unreliable parts supply. The customer submitted an inquiry through Jiuzhou’s website in July 2026 and confirmed the order after two rounds of technical communication and a factory audit.
During the factory visit, the customer’s representative said the main reason for choosing Jiuzhou was that “the configuration could be modified according to our road conditions — they didn’t just push a standard model.” The first batch is scheduled to enter trial operation on a short-haul mining route, with follow-up orders to be considered based on performance.
The Broader Momentum of Chinese Heavy Truck and Trailer Exports to Africa
This order is not an isolated event. In the first four months of 2026, China’s heavy truck exports to Africa grew 84.4% year-on-year — the fastest growth rate among all regional markets — with exports to Tanzania up 1.4 times and to Kenya up 1.3 times. Road transport accounts for more than 80% of Africa’s logistics system, and both road infrastructure upgrades and active mineral extraction are driving demand for transport equipment.
Jiuzhou entered overseas markets formally in 2017 and delivered a batch of 300 semi-trailers to a Southeast Asian customer in 2019. In recent years, the company has continued to secure skeleton semi-trailer orders in East and Southeast Africa. The delivery of these rear dump semi-trailers further expands the product line’s application in local mining scenarios.
