Low bed semi trailers (lowboy trailers) are widely used for bulk shipping of heavy-duty and oversized goods, such as construction machinery, industrial components and large equipment. Step 1: Pre-shipping Preparation. First, confirm that the trailer’s load capacity, platform height and axle configuration match the goods’ weight, volume and shape. Then, inspect the bulk goods carefully: check for packaging damage, rust or deformation, and wrap fragile parts with bubble wrap or shock-absorbing materials for extra protection. Prepare necessary tools such as steel straps, chains and wooden wedges for fixation.
Step 2: Professional Loading. Park the low bed trailer on a flat, solid ground and engage the parking brake to prevent movement. Use cranes or forklifts operated by professional personnel to load the goods. Follow the principle of “heavy at the bottom, light at the top and balanced on both sides” to avoid uneven weight distribution and potential tilting. Adjust the position of the goods to ensure they are centered on the platform.
Step 3: Fixation and Reinforcement. After loading, secure the goods firmly with steel straps and chains, which should be tightly fastened to the trailer’s lashing points. Place wooden wedges between the goods and the platform to fill gaps and prevent lateral sliding. Recheck all fasteners to ensure there is no looseness.
Step 4: Transportation and Inspection. During transportation, drivers maintain a stable speed, avoid sudden acceleration, braking or turning, and stay away from rough roads. Conduct regular inspections every 100 kilometers to check the goods’ fixation and the trailer’s condition. Before delivery, recheck the goods for damage and confirm the delivery address and contact person with the consignee.
For international shipping, prepare complete documents including commercial invoices and packing lists, and comply with the import regulations of the destination country. Following these specific steps can effectively reduce transportation risks and ensure the goods are delivered intact.
